Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) introduced this policy with the aim of streamlining and expediting the processing of Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs) to address the backlog that arose during the COVID-19 pandemic. The policy has proven effective in resolving a significant portion of the older TRV cases in our backlog, contributing to IRCC’s commitment to expedite TRV application processing.
The discontinuation of this policy does not affect individuals who have already been granted a visa; they can still travel to Canada until their visa expires.
IRCC has been actively working to diminish processing times and address the accumulated backlog within our system. We remain dedicated to swiftly processing TRVs to meet the rising demand from individuals seeking to visit Canada.
